Metal Gear Acid 2 is a turn-based stealth action game based on a trading card collection developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami for the PlayStation Portable in 2005. It is a sequel to the original Metal Gear Acid, Set after the events of the previous game. Like its predecessor, it follows an alternate timeline separate from the main Metal Gear series.
Metal Gear Acid 2 uses an all-new cel-shaded graphics engine, replacing the darker graphics of the first game, and features improved gameplay systems. It comes with a PSP accessory called the Solid Eye, which is a folding carton with a specialized lens that fits over the PSP screen, creating three-dimensional images.
Metal Gear Acid 2’s gameplay is essentially similar to that of its predecessor: using a series of collectible trading cards based on other Metal Gear games. There are several new features, such as a SELL option for cards, which allows selling surplus cards that players cannot use for more points (in-game currency used to purchase cards), and fires. cover (when the player’s ally is behind the enemy and has an equipped weapon within range of the target, when the player attacks, his/her ally also fires at the target). There’s also the ability to move through doors instead of stopping when approached, and characters can now pick up items like weapons and card packs by simply running through them (instead of having to finish move on the item).
Metal Gear Acid 2 uses a new engine, bringing cel-shaded visuals, 3D gear boxes, and new particle effects. There’s a tutorial mode for beginners and a new single-player “Arena” mode that allows players to fight against waves of enemies.
The plot of Metal Gear Acid 2 takes place in 2009, two years after the events of Metal Gear Acid. The player controls Drebin 893, an employee of the secret organization Philanthropy, on a mission to stop a terrorist group called Dead Cell from stealing a potentially deadly new virus.
Metal Gear Acid 2 was highly praised by critics, with praise for its graphics, gameplay, and story. The game has sold more than 1 million copies worldwide.
